Chalet Freshtracks, Flaine

Join us at Chalet Freshtracks and spend the week discovering magnificent on and off-piste terrain with our world-class instructors.
Our off-piste instruction weeks in Flaine are without a doubt some of the most popular holidays in our program, as they really do offer something quite special. The winning combination of first class instruction with Yann, Diane, Alain, Raphael & Luc and team and a warm welcome from our chalet staff is the top choice for many of our regular customers who return to Flaine again and again.

Our two chalets are very similar in layout and style and are both located in the colourful Scandinavian-style development, Les Chalets du Hameau, a few minutes drive from the main resort. There are free transport services to and from the main resort until midnight and in good conditions you can also ski down to the meeting point in the mornings.

Each chalet has six bedrooms, with a large open-plan kitchen/lounge/diner complete with scandinavian wood-burner, TV and wi-fi. In true Scandinavian style, a sauna comes as a prerequisite in order to help you relax and refresh ready for another day off-piste! There are three twin bedrooms with ensuite and on the top floor, a further three twin rooms with a shared bathroom. These rooms are normally sold for single occupancy at a supplement. You can see a floor plan here.

Our fantastic chalet team will be serving up hearty breakfasts, scrumptious afternoon teas and delicious three course evening meals (with one night off and one pre-prepared evening meal in line with our chalet staff days off). And of course, we have chosen a good selection of wines to accompany the food!

The chalets are almost identical in layout - take a look at the floor plan below

At the heart of the Grand Massif, Flaine has fantastic, vast and varied terrain for skiers of all levels. As a resort built because of its majestic mountains and generous dumps of snow, Flaine benefits from one of the best snowfalls across the Alps, with an average of almost six metres a year. With its runs being predominantly north-facing, the resort is renowned for maintaining fantastic snow throughout the season.

Situated in the centre of a snowy bowl, there’s a wealth of off-piste terrain to ski both within the bowl and also over the top of the mountain ridges; in between pistes, tree runs, couloirs, gullies, powder fields and backcountry routes dropping from 2500m down to 700m.

Staying in the Freshtracks chalets is made even better by the epic on-snow experience that we want to give you! After an exploratory warm up day, you’ll be taught, guided, coaxed, tweaked (and entertained!) by some brilliant instructors.

The warm up day is free ski day where you get the chance to explore the resort, test your kit (and your legs!) and make sure you are all set for the days ahead.

The first morning with the instructors you will normally stay together as a large group for a couple of runs before a good old-fashioned 'ski off' where you'll all ski down an off piste section and will be allocated in to groups. From there you will spend the rest of your week with your group developing your skills and confidence moving to more and more challenging terrain and slopes as you progress. While the majority of your time will be spent off piste, you may well have some instruction on piste - particularly at the 'aspirer' (red) level - to improve your overall balance and control.

Yann, who heads up our team of instructors, has been managing our Freshtracks courses in Flaine for 22 years now. His team of carefully selected ISIA qualified instructors are there to help improve your off piste skiing whilst teaching you about all the different aspects of the off piste environment. With an extensive of local knowledge, the team will help you discover the best snow Flaine has to offer in a safe and enjoyable environment.

Within the instructor team is Diane Moreau, having spent over 30 winter seasons in Flaine she will share with you her love and passion for the mountains of Flaine. Her patient and friendly approach will make you feel as ease off piste.

Previously director of the ESI ski school in Flaine, Alain Baudouin brings his exceptional off piste knowledge and tuition to the team. Known for his legendary humour, you will be delighted to ski with him.

Raphaël Renon, the most recent addition to the instructor team, has spent many seasons teaching in Flaine and looks forward to welcoming more members to ski off piste with him. Luc Dumontier, well known by many members, knows Flaine like the back of his hand. He is a great teacher who will help you improve your technique whilst having a lot of fun.

And finally, heading up our Instructor Led Guiding program in Flaine is another key member of the Flaine team - Philippe Clerc. The Grand Massif is his home as he lives and works in Flaine all year round.

The instructors, together with our chalet team – Sue, Rachel and Peter, team all share the same goal of making your skiing holiday in Flaine a unique and special experience. Yann and the team look forward to welcoming many returning and new faces to Flaine this winter season.

A set coach transfer from Geneva Airport is included in the holiday price. The coach times are the same every week during the season:

Outbound - Depart Geneva at 1430 - expected arrival in to resort 1600 – 1630.

Inbound - Depart Flaine 0930 - expected arrival at Geneva Airport 1100.

Meeting point @ Geneva - Jazz Cafe in the arrivals hall (turn right as you enter the arrival hall - direction towards the car hire)

Should your flight times not fit in with these times and you would prefer to organise your own transfer, we can recommend Go Massif who offer shared transfers to resort and will drop you directly at the chalet, or Altibus who operate the public bus to/from Flaine. If you arrange your own travel please make us aware so we can inform the Ski Club Rep and chalet team of your travel plans. Please note that we need everyone checked out of their rooms by 0900 and will not be able to check in to your room until 1600 on arrival day.

Should you need to hire skis or boots then we highly recommend Sport 2000 in Flaine Forum. Our regulars will be familiar with Seb, Hugo and Loic in the shop who are so helpful and welcoming to our members. They work closely alongside our instructor team to make sure they have an excellent range of new kit perfect for Ski Club Members on our courses.

As well as providing great kit and excellent service they also offer all members a 20% discount and you can even leave your kit there each evening rather than taking it back to the chalet should you wish. You do not need to pre-book, this will all be arranged in resort on the first ski morning.

You can pre purchase your lift pass through Ski Club Freshtracks (price TBC). If you would like your lift pass ready for your arrival this must be booked with the Freshtracks team by the Tuesday prior to your departure.
