Kaunertal Ski Resort
For snowsure glacier skiing and some excellent backcountry options, the Kaunertal Glacier is a great option.
The glacier ski area may be smaller than others, but snow reliability is just as good as elsewhere. The slopes extend up to 3113m and its possible to drop 1000m down to the base at Ochsenalm in one run. Most are rated blue, but there's a couple of reds off the Karlsjochbahn lift and a long black down to base, accessed via a ski tunnel. The ski area is also renowned for its backcountry options, hire a guide and explore beyond the lift network, with particular highlights being the Weisseejoch and Nörderberg routes, each of which drop almost a vertical kilometer.
There's no accommodation at the slopes, so stay instead at Feichten or at the small ski resort of Fendels, located a little further down the valley. Getting here takes a little over an hour from Innsbruck.
